The Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders (YCEWD) serves men and women who experience problems related to food, eating, weight, and body image. Operated by the Yale University Department of Psychology, the clinic is located in a professional district adjacent to the campus. Our mission is to provide services to members of the community, train doctoral students in clinical psychology, and do clinical research to better understand eating and weight disorders.

The YCEWD provides individual, family, and group psychotherapy on an outpatient basis for obesity, binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, and anorexia nervosa. We also provide brief consultations to family members of eating disordered individuals. All services offered by the clinic are provided by therapists who specialize in the treatment of eating and weight disorders and participate on a treatment team composed of Yale faculty and practitioners from the community. Katie Beecher, M.S.
Masters of Science, Counseling

I offer counseling for people with eating disorders. Before receiving my degree, I had bulimia for about 4 years and was eating disordered in various other ways for about 2 years before that. I have been well for over 12 years and have over 10 years of experience as a therapist. I have an excellent psychiatrist to whom I refer for medication. Many insurances are accepted.

I use only supportive, caring, non controlling techniques. I do not weigh people or demand that people make agreements with me about their weight or behavior. My sessions are client directed since I believe that everyone has the power within to recover and live fulfilling lives. I see myself as simply a guide and a support who has been through the same difficult situation and made it through. I use art therapy, education and Jungian techniques such as communicating with the eating disorder and with the loving parts of oneself (much like the higher power concept).

I will be completing my Ph.D. in February 2001 and am a resource person for ANAD.
