So you'd like to know more about Something Fishy... Hmmmm.... Where do we begin?
My name is Amy, and Something Fishy is actually the title for the creative
entity that is my husband and I. We started it up in 1995 with
the initial opening of the website
and the naming of our little band.
In the beginning (and for those who remember), the website started off small. It contained
some information about us, a few samples of
computer graphics
I have done, some of our music, and a small
Eating Disorders Site that was about six sections in size. Many moons
later, with a lot of hours at the computer and in the studio, Something Fishy has
grown to what you see now!
It's always been important to both of us to give something back to the world... which
was part of the ultimate goal of Something Fishy. I am recovered for Anorexia myself
so the issue was one that hit close to home, and we felt important to tackle.
We sell some FISHY STUFF through the site, as a
way to help fund what we do here, and as another way to "give back" (as partial proceeds
from our sales are donated to non-profit organizations). CLICK HERE
to read more about what we sell and why we're selling stuff! We are also now humbly accepting financial gifts from those who feel comfortable doing so, who'd like to support Something Fishy in it's goals to continue to raise awareness, and who wish to give a little something back to our cause. You can read our press releases for even more information about what we're currently up to.
Special Thanks...
A great big thank you goes out to all the people who have helped by: submitting material, writing letters, corresponding with me by phone or e-mail; submitting names for the memorial site; sharing website links and references on and off the net; writing articles on the topic; doing continuous research in the area of Eating Disorders diagnosis, and treatment and recovery.
Thank you Lee, Laurie, Pam, Cheryl, Bonnie, Cath, Tammy, Lucy, Hazel, Melissa, Daniel, Judy,
and Kitty (and others I'm sure I'm forgetting now!)
for all their continued work in putting out their own personal
websites on the topic of Eating Disorders.
Mucho thanks to Wendy for her website, her late-night ear, and her invaluable friendship.
Of course, I need to thank my
husband who has helped me to push forward and make this project what it is, the whole "Something Fishy" dream... and for all his love, kindness, understanding and support.
Last, but not least, a very special thank you to
Colleen - owner and administrator
of the other EDSA website,
Mirror-Mirror, who has been not only a wonderful person to work with, a truly great
friend and source of inspiration to me, but the one who puts up with my endless ranting!
I cannot go without sending a special thank you to
Paola and
Daniela Rodriguez-Rovner (muchas gracias mi amigas!) for
helping me to translate the site into spanish; and Sabrina and Diane (mercis mon amis!) for helping me
to translate the site into french.
They have been wonderful in volunteering their time to do such a large task!
Without a doubt, I cannot at all forget to thank our small group of volunteers, our Fishy Mods, for their timeless dedication in helping to keep our bulletin boards and online chats safe and productive. Our support communities have become so large, we couldn't do it without them! Thank you Wendy, Millie and Car!
The Something Fishy Website would be nothing without all the help of
Long Island Internet Headquarters, the best Internet Service Provider around. Without the help of Kat,
EB, and John
this website could not have become what it has. LIHQ is the company that donates all the server space and backend services (the technology that allows for chat and the bulletin board) to Something Fishy.
I also want to take the time to say a very special thank you and give a word of hope to all the people who come and visit the site, who continue to return for themselves or to share information with a friend or loved-one, and to all the family and friends of those who struggle who watch from the outside as we suffer. If we can continue to come together with support and hope, I have faith there can be life after an Eating Disorder... and I know in the process we are spreading the awareness and understanding to everyone what Eating Disorders are truly about. Thank you so much for sharing your e-mail with me -- I know I cannot answer all of it personally, but I do try, and I know sometimes my replies are slow coming -- you have all shared so much, and for that I cannot be appreciative enough.
If there is still more you want to know feel free to visit our main
website and our music
site. Of course, come back often and send me
e-mail anytime.
If you wish to send a financial gift:
As many of you know, Something Fishy is a company/project that Tony and I are always working on in our free time. We have often juggled our responsibilities here with our family, and our full-time and part-time jobs. If you would like to send a financial gift to help support Something Fishy and the projects we work on to raise awareness about Eating Disorders, please follow the instructions below.
Checks of Money Orders:
Credit cards:
Please understand that we are not an official 501(c) non-profit organization. Any "donations" are not tax-deductible, and are considered financial gifts. This is something that may change in the future, but for now going non-profit is too expensive a process for us to consider.
