Fairview University Medical Center Adult Eating Disorders Program
When eating disorders are left untreated, they can lead to serious, long-term health problems. If you worry about your eating patterns and are concerned about anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa, turn to the Eating Disorders Program of Fairview Behavioral Services. Fairview offers a comprehensive program of treatment services tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Fairview's highly skilled professional staff help each person address the medical, emotional and behavioral issues associated with eating disorders and find new, healthier ways to live.
As a part of Fairview-University Medical Center, our Eating Disorders Program staff work with our clients to develop an individual treatment plan that coordinates all necessary medical and mental health services. Our clients' treatment experience is streamlined as they progress to different levels of care in the program. Along with medical care, we provide a supportive environment that enables clients to normalize eating behaviors and attitudes, and achieve and maintain a healthy weight range.
Our programs and services support our belief in the importance of healing the whole person--not just the underlying symptoms. We also believe that no two people with eating disorders are exactly alike, so each client is assigned a therapist and psychiatrist to oversee the treatment plan and help them resolve their unhealthy thinking and behaviors regarding eating and weight control. Cultural Resource Representatives are available to contribute cultural and clinical expertise to the assessment, treatment and after care planning process for patients and their families with unique cultural needs.
Although the treatment plan varies according to each clients' needs, every client will undergo an initial assessment and orientation process. While our primary focus is to work with the client to overcome their eating disorder, we may discover that secondary issues are the primary cause of the illness. The clients' primary therapist works with a multidisciplinary team of professionals that includes: Dietian, Psychiatrist, Medical Director, Pschotherapist, RN, Case Manager, and Program Manager.
Out treatment program is based on cognitive behavioral therapy and family systems theory. It is our goal to address mistaken beliefs about food and body as well as how the illness relates to the family and relationships in the family. We expect the family to be involved in their family members' treatment program to aid in developing the clients' support system.
Fairview Behavioral services staff are specially trained in eating disorders issues, are master's prepared, and have demonstated appropriate certification and licensure.
