Lora Sasiela, CSW
My treatment philosophy involves creating a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment in which to begin the process of healing. The work focuses on one's relationship with food and body. I use cognitive-behavioral techniques (i.e., food-mood diaries; bibliotherapy; relaxation techniques; journaling; identifying hunger and satiation; etc.) to address and reduce eating disorder symptoms. Simultaneously we will explore the underlying issues (i.e., psychological; cultural; familial; interpersonal; etc.) which initially led to the creation of, and currently maintain the symptoms. Through this two-pronged approach symptom reduction occurs and healthier coping skills are developed. An increase in self-awareness and understanding leads to self-acceptance, self-love, and self-care. Referrals to and collaboration with physicians, psychiatrists, and/or nutritionists are available.

Pre-therapy group: Marathon weekend for sufferers and family members. Save time and money by getting a lot of information about eating disorders in one weekend of classes, instead of dragging it out over many weeks of expensive individual therapy. Link with others in the same boat. Learn what you would need to do to get over this!
Individual therapy: Sliding-scale fee so that just about anyone can afford it. No insurance payments or managed care intrusions, so you can be assured of confidentiality and of continuing care as long as YOU want it. Put into practice what you learned in the pre-therapy marathon weekend.
