EXCITING NEW TREATMENT METHOD POTENTIAL
The Sensory Integration Research and Rehabilitation Institute (SIRRI)

I am a licensed physical therapist successfully using the Sensory Learning Method to treat a variety of psychological and neurological conditions. This method has proven beneficial in helping people with bipolar disorder, OCD, ADHD, and traumatic brain injury.

I would like the opportunity to evaluate the helpfulness of this method as an additional tool in treatment towards recovery from an eating disorder. I am looking for open-minded individuals that are in recovery from anorexia, bulimia or compulsive overeating who are interested in completing this unique 30-day program.

Participation Requires:

  • 12 consecutive days of in-office treatment sessions (approximately 75 minutes), followed by 18 consecutive days of at-home sessions (you do on your own)... 30 consecutive days total committment. Additional two days of testing required.
  • You must be over 18 years of age.
  • You must be serious about recovery and have been in-recovery at least 8 months.
  • You must be under the care of a physician and/or therapist.
Note: This is NOT residential care (we do not provide housing). On average you will spent 75 minutes per day during your first 12 days. If coming in from outside the New York/Long Island area you are responsible for your own accommodations.

Our fee schedule is extremely reasonable. If you have questions or are interested in experiencing the Sensory Learning Method, please contact me by phone, email or through our website.

My treatment philosophy offers a compassionate approach to begin the journey of "trusting in the process."The work required to get better is challenging but worth the journey. I use cognitive behavioral techniques food/emotions,relaxation techniques, and a journal to challenge your thinking. At the same time I will offer reading material and family treatment if we believe it would help in the healing process. I have worked for Mather Hospital-the eating disorder outpatient unit and currently supervise the staff.Referrals made to and coordination of treatment with physicians, psychiatrists, and nutritionists are available.

Sharon Taub, MSW, CSW

Through the connection made in the therapeutic relationship, the eating disordered patient is able to connect with the self. Through the integration of body, mind, and spirit the sense of self becomes whole again. It is this wholeness that provides the strength to heal in a culture that strives to take our sense of selves away. With postgraduate training at the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia, I have come to specialize in the treatment of all types of eating disorders in women, men, and adolescents. I use psychodynamic, experiential, and cognitive behavioral techniques. I like to work as a team with nutritionists, physicians, and psychiatrists to treat the whole person. I provide individual, family, and group counseling. I also have a background in drug and alcohol treatment.
