This Demon
by: Donna L. McCoy

I feel it racing through my very soul
through my veins, its power courses...
controlling, maneuvering, and manipulating...
my mind, my body...my very essence.
This is not me!
Who am I?
It robs me of my true identity.
Others see me one way
yet cannot see the inner turmoil.
This Demon...

Can hide, can deceive and fool others.
It lies dormant inside me
waiting in the depths and shadows
of my soul
waiting patiently for the moment
I'm alone...isolated
Laughing and mocking me inside.
I long for companionship, company
knowing it will stay away, be held at bay
But no one comes.

It fools them...I fool them
pretending all is fine
knowing it's not
Crying silently for help.
Why don't they hear, why can't they see
the truth?
Be strong, take charge
cease the falseness
Challenge me...guide me
Be strong for me...!!!
This Demon...

Wants no friends...
only me...
forever controlling...
Stop this...Stop it!
See things for what they really are!
See through me, my words...my actions...
they are not mine...
Don't leave me...please...
It's what the Demon wants...
it yearns and waits for solitude...
It hates you...it wants me...
I hate it...I love you...
Yet I cannot let go...
This Demon...

Thrives on my inner turmoil
my sadness, my pain...
Stay with me, my friends...
you are my only hope...
Don't you see my words to you
are false, controlled, manipulated?
Not me! Not mine...
There the Demon...

His strength is great
yet yours is stronger...
be my strength...
reach out...
save me...hold on...
don't turn away...
believe in me...
Where is the light, the peace,
the calm...?
I feel only the storm...
hold me, pull me from the
depths of its grip...
This Demon...this enemy

Can you? Will you?
Are you strong enough? Can you be
my strength?
Show me...teach me...
Challenge me...my words...my actions...
They are his...
Beat him...this Demon...

Help me beat
him...for I cannot without you...
my family...my friends...
Don't leave me...please...
When I push you...push back
for I am losing...
my strength is my weakness
It's not me...
See me! Now!
Before it's too late...
See me...
