Being Me
by: Kelly

A girl and her worries falls to her knees,
Begging to God, "can you help me? Please?"
She did her best in work and at school,
Friends didn't see her as she wanted; to be cool.

Parents pressured her, always doing her best,
This left her nervous and scared and stressed.
Wondering how she could please them the best,
She studied all night and aced every test.

But still she thought, "there's more I can do,
I'm still not good enough for you."
She began to diet so as to be thin,
With her parents, she thought this would win.

Soon this diet became an obsession,
Her only desire, a longing possession.
She counted the calories, watching the food,
Eating less so that she could lose.

"Wow, you look great," and "boy, you're small,"
Were the compliments she got, but she put up a wall.
No longer wanting to hear what they said,
As people whispered, voices ran through her head.

Everyone thought she had lost too much weight,
But the diet continued, watching what she ate.
She looked in the mirror, hating what she saw,
Not seeing her beauty, but every little flaw.

Soon time passed, as it always does,
Memories of good times turning to fuzz.
He friends soon left her, worried, but scared,
A new girl had become her, the old one not there.

"Maybe if more weight were to come off,
They would like me more, now I can't stop."
So more weight she did lose, her body turned frail,
Everything a mess, she began to fail.

Her schoolwork suffered, sad was her only mood,
She couldn't concentrate on anything but food.
The need, the want, the intense desire,
Was not enough to put her dreams in the fire.

So now she is thin, she got what she needed,
Her body craved food, but still she could not feed it.
"Every food that I eat will make me so fat,
I worked so hard, I don't want to lose that."

She continues not eating to this very day,
Her feelings all sad, her emotions at bay.
What she once wanted has now become true,
Her old self gone, no other showing through.
