The Unsteady Walk Back
by: Luke

Hours lost in this mirror
Eyes wandering over this sin,
Skin sags, rejecting bone
I've allowed the mind to win.

There's a deadly pride
That traps a soul,
Somewhere behind these starving eyes.

Days lost on the run
Rush-stumbling from thing to thing,
Sleep flees, just empty time
'Till I've nothing left to bring.

There's a numbing drive
That wraps a soul,
Somewhere behind these starving eyes.

Life lost in this cage
Engaged to it's own sick deal,
Heart falters, protesting at last
So blank I've forgotten how to feel.

When you strike rock bottom
It snaps a soul,
From out behind these starving eyes.

Even as the part of me
I've loved the most dies,
It still isn't enough
To get past these starving eyes.
