The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) is sponsoring a vigil and rally on April 20, 2002. The main event ("Voices - Not Bodies") will be in Washington, DC, with activities also taking place in other areas of the country.

Plans for the DC event include an afternoon section with information tables and petitions. At the evening program, we hope to have several celebrity and non-celebrity speakers, along with some musical entertainment.

ATTENTION MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS:

Do you ever use music in your work with people who are in recovery from an eating disorder? If so, please visit my website at www.eur.com/therapy and participate in my study. The website consists of a questionnaire that will take you approximately 40-60 minutes to complete. Your anonymity is assured. Thank you very much.

The questionnaire is for all mental health professionals because although the majority of music in the context of therapy is done by music therapists, there are non-music therapists out there who utilize some of the music therapy interventions (occupational therapists, creative arts therapists, etc.)

I am interested in the effect that music interventions have on people with eating disorders, and I would like as many people as possible to participate. People with eating disorders are still often being given treatment that has been shown to be ineffective and yet continues to be used. Many people do not know of the benefits of interventions such as music and how they can cut through the defenses of people with eating disorders who often intellectualize issues to the extreme.

My hope is that music will become more and more understood and appreciated as a valid intervention with many populations. I happen to have a particular interest in eating disorders.

This is a very specific topic and I could use all the help I can get. I would be very grateful to you if you could take the time to complete the questionnaire.
