I am trying to get a book together on peoples experiences of EDs. If you
have a story you would like to share then please e mail me with it. I am
a bulimic myself & want to do this book because in my experience I have yet
to find a book on EDs that is purely from the point of view of the
sufferer. I want to steer clear of psychological jargon & so would
appreciate any info you could give me! It can be on any aspect of EDs, any
type & also if you have any related issues.

The Eating Disorder Referral and Information Center is dedicated to the
treatment and prevention of eating disorders. We hope to promote social
attitudes that enhance a healthy body image and self-esteem. Our goal is to
provide assistance, in the form of information and referrals, to those
suffering with eating disorders to get them started on the road to recovery
and healthy living. The Eating Disorder Referral and Information Center is
providing "Scholarships" to help individuals obtain treatment from a
competent psychotherapist who specializes in the treatment of eating
disorders. This is merely a beginning of an approach to a very serious
problem. The Eating Disorder Referral and Information Center has always been
on the forefront of innovative ideas and we hope that this idea will bring us
one step closer to a solution to the serious problem of eating disorders.
For an application for a scholarship please send a self-addressed, stamped
envelope to:
If you are a therapist who specializes in treating eating disorders please
consider becoming part of the team. For therapist's application for
scholarship participation and membership see edreferral.com.

I am a recovering anorexic who has recently become dedicated to preventing the spread of eating disorders amongst people not formerly affected. I began by, after returning from an inpatient program, speaking to an assembly of younger girls at my school about my experience with anorexia nervosa and how it affected my life. But pretty soon I discovered that I did not think that that would be enough.
My idea grew out of a comment made to me by a friend who was also struggling with an eating disorder. She said that the educational programs designed to educate people on eating disorders had actually inspired her to go down that path. With that in mind, I thought of the Letters for Prevention program.
The purpose of Letters for Prevention is to have sufferers and former sufferers of eating disorders speak out and tell the REAL experience of having an eating disorder. These letters to young children, both girls and boys (because both are at risk of developing eating disorders) focus on the emotional hell of going through an eating disorder and the strength and courage it takes to recover/go through recovery. These letters will not focus on weight and will not explicity tell the amount of food consumed every day.

Letters for Prevention Website

I am about to start a nonprofit that will utilize young people to work on
eating disorder issues in lots of different ways- one would be web site
construction, training people in your school about the issue, lobbying
congress for better health care, media campaign, etc.
I need input from people who have or are struggling with an eating disorder,
what do you think about the name "Wearing Thin" for the organization's name?
I was then going to have a weekly newsletter that would be called "The
Skinny". Tell me what you think.
