Crimson Dreams

a child's dreams shattered
at the arms of a weaponless army.
the waves on this ocean crashed no more.
visions of pink ribbons
and tiny little dresses
and sweet-smelling powders
all washed away with her tears.
innocence never had a chance to survive
in this not-so-perfect body.
so many nights i cried myself to sleep
thinking of a future that could never be.
and suddenly an angel brought with it
a river of crimson . . .
of hope . . .
of dreams.
i never saw a red so red
or felt a peace so peaceful.
and as the clouds lifted from my hazy head
i knew i wanted a better life
for that little child that still lives inside me.
crimson dreams and pink ribbons . . .
and peace.
